NYSACAC Statement of Inclusion and Diversity(June 15, 2020) New York State Association for College Admission Counseling condemns racism and bigotry in all forms. As an association, we promote and celebrate diversity in our leadership and membership. We join in the national mourning for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other Black people who have died egregiously in the chokehold of systemic racism and senseless police brutality. Tragically, our communities of color and our most vulnerable residents have been especially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We promote all means to end racial, social, and economic inequities and injustices through education and civic engagement. We value and nurture every individual and profess to recognize our own biases, and commit to practicing cultural competency in all of our interactions. Now more than ever, we must set the example and the standard for antiracist action. Our leadership empathizes with our members’ varied needs by providing a safe space for dialogue and camaraderie, educational resources, and calls to advocacy. Please be sure to vote in all elections and to voice your concerns with your assembly member, state senator, and local officials. We support Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order signed on June 12, 2020, the New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative. Every day, at work, with family, and in your community, we urge you to learn and practice antiracism. #BlackLivesMatter Marissa Guijarro, PresidentMarie Nocella, President-ElectStephanie Espina, Immediate Past PresidentHow You Can Help
